Kundalini – What Is It & How to Activate It?

Another week has gone by, and more shifts have taken place. We’re having quite a windy day here in Oslo, Norway today, and as I write this I can hear the wind rustling the leaves outside. The wind represents the element of air. When it is strong, it moves and shakes us, and symbolizes how the breath can fill us with the power of life, and purify us, too, clearing out what no longer serves us. It can also help us activate the Kundalini energy within us, which today’s topic will be all about, and I will get back to how that can work further into this post.

I think I write this every week, but I feel that things are moving ever faster and faster these days, my own process included. As more and more past traumas and heaviness is cleared, the lighter I feel, and the faster the process becomes. This means that things are coming up to be cleared at a much faster rate now, but it also means that they don’t feel quite as painful and heavy anymore. I still have a good cry from time to time, whenever I need to release something, but it leaves much faster now than before.

Anyway, when talking about ascension and kundalini, it can all sound a bit mysterious and difficult to grasp, perhaps, if you haven’t experienced it for yourself. So I figured I would try to explain it from my perspective, in the hope that it will help you make more sense of it. I will also talk about how you can activate it and work with it for yourself. I’m by no means an expert on the subject, but I have had my own personal experiences with it, so I will share what I have learned and have come to understand about it, as well as some theories that make sense to me given my own experiences.

So let’s start off with what kundalini is. I’ve been explained that it’s a cosmic energy that sits coiled up at the root of the spine (or in that area), and when activated it moves up the spine, through the chakras and up towards the top of the head. When a full kundalini awakening occurs, the kundalini comes all the way up to the top of the head and activates all the major centers or chakras in the body. Sometimes we may experience a partial kundalini rising, as we all have blocks in our chakras that prevent the kundalini from coming all the way up in the beginning. However, as the kundalini begins to move up the spine, it starts to work on the different energy centers, and will bring up issues for us to heal and clear in order for it to rise further.

So this may make it sound as though once the full kundalini awakening occurs, you’re all set and all your chakras are in alignment and everything is blissful. I wish it were that simple, but alas… When the kundalini awakens and you experience a full activation, you do indeed feel blissful and full of love, however, that feeling does not last, as the kundalini will usually eventually come back down, and then begins the journey of ascension, where the kundalini continues to work through your energy bodies and release your core wounds and traumas at the deepest level. The goal is to get the kundalini back up permanently, so that we can step fully into our power and be constantly connected to God/Source/the love within… (call it what you want).

It’s a bit like the saying that goes, before enlightenment – chop wood, carry water; after enlightenment – chop wood, carry water. This is true to a great extent, but there is a difference. When the kundalini is activated, you feel the love that you are at the core of your being, that is at the core of the universe, and that stays with you and drives you in a way that you never experienced before. Fear falls away to some degree, and you just know deep down, that even though the journey takes you to hell and back (through your own stored up pain), all is and will be well. For that reason I like to think of the kundalini as the love energy at its core, as it brings you back to love.

Now, if you haven’t already experienced a kundalini awakening, you may be curious to learn how you can activate it. First, I’d like to say that nobody can activate their initial kundalini awakening at will, as that is something only God or your Higher Self can do. Perhaps some gurus also can, but I think it’s best to just let it happen naturally. And don’t worry too much about it. If it’s meant to be, it will happen. With the times we’re in though, I think those that are ascending into new earth will experience it at some point. I never really thought too much about it, or sought to have a kundalini awakening, so it was a bit of a surprise for me when it happened. I knew what it was though, due to my background in Kundalini yoga, but that was about it.

In my own experience, I do feel that the more you can work on yourself on all levels, the more it will help to raise the kundalini and make it a smoother experience for you when it happens. As I am a practitioner and teacher of Kundalini yoga and meditation, I feel that has been instrumental in assisting my own kundalini awakening, both before and after it occurred. But any kind of meditation and mindfulness is great, as well as chakra work, forgiveness, opening the heart, helping others and regular therapy. I did all those things for years, and more alternative therapy also, such as spiritual journeys and past life regression, and it has all helped me greatly in the process of ascension, laying the foundation for how to do my own deep inner work that I’ve had to do in my healing process. I highly recommend that you try out some or all of these methods to support you on your own journey. And feel free to check out some of my own meditations that you can access here.

I hope this gives you a little more of an understanding of kundalini and how to work with it. It is a deeply transformational process, and by no means easy, but anything worthwhile never is, in my experience. It has been the most difficult experience, but also the most beautiful. So keep working on yourself, as the rewards are immeasurable!

With that I wish you a beautiful day, and send you so much love & light!
