Singing Your Soul’s Song

Spring is well and truly here in Norway. Over the last couple of weeks most of the snow has melted and we’ve had some beautiful, warm and sunny days (well, warm for Spring that is). This is pretty early for Norway, but I don’t really mind. It’s nice to have some warmer weather and to already see some of the first flowers pop out of the ground. Spending time out in nature has been very restoring for me lately, as I have been feeling a bit run down. Nature is really one of the greatest healers, and I find it inspiring to be in nature too. Sitting outside in the sunshine, listening to the birds tweeting and the sounds of nature waking to life gets my creative juices flowing.

When I’m out in nature it helps me feel closer to my own essence, and my own truth. It’s easy to get caught up in life, be it work, school, family or other things. Life has a way of demanding a lot from us on all fronts, which makes it all the more important to stop and smell the roses sometimes. We all have a need to slow down, take a break, and find our way back to our soul and who we truly are deep down. Taking time to breathe and just be, is vital if we want to live a life in alignment with our authentic self, at least that is my experience.

If we want to be all that we can be and live our life to its fullest potential, we need to create a balance between doing and being. Yes, we need to step out into the world and make things happen, work, create, whatever it is we want to do with our lives, but we also need to take time to ourselves, slow down and feed the soul.

You may have noticed that the tag line for my website is “Sing Your Soul’s Song”. This expression really has a twofold meaning for me. On the surface, and since I am a singer and sound healer, it is about expressing your essence through song, singing from your soul, so to speak. But for me it also goes a little deeper than that. It is about expressing ourselves to our fullest potential, finding what gives you energy and joy in life, what “turns you on” so to speak and live your life according to that. It’s about expressing your soul, your authentic self in creative ways that are unique to you. I believe that we are all creative, we just have different ways of expressing it. Being creative is basically just having the capacity to create, and that is something we all have the potential for within us.

So the reason why I chose this tag line for my site, is because I really feel that it sums up who I am and what I am about at the deepest level. I am constantly working on expressing my soul both directly through my singing, but also in other creative ways, writing and recording music, blogging and healing work of all kinds. At the same time I also want to inspire that in others. Because I think to really fulfill our greatest potential (and that is our birthright as human beings), we need to get in touch with our soul. We need to take time to listen to our soul, really feel into what is there, what is in our heart and then follow that in our every day life.

I realize that this is easier said than done, and isn’t usually something that we are taught to do as we grow up. Most of us just go through life somewhat haphazardly, being pulled in one direction or another, without really stopping to feel into what we really, deep down, want for ourselves. But we can, little by little, learn to listen to the voice of our soul. We can do this by taking some time out every once in a while, by spending some time in nature, being still, just breathing and being. We can meditate, go for walks, dance, listen to music, do some yoga, whatever it is that helps us to get in touch with our own authentic selves. It’s not necessarily the same for every person, and can also vary from day to day. But feeling into it in the moment and choosing what you are drawn to at that time, that is really what it means to listen to your soul. And the more you can get in the habit of doing that, the more you can build a life that is in alignment with your soul and ultimately your own happiness.

Life has its ups and downs for all of us, but I believe we are all here for a reason, and we all have something to contribute to the world. Don’t let anyone try to convince you otherwise! We all have unique gifts and talents, and we all have things that we are drawn to and that energizes us and gives us joy. When we find what that is, each of us individually, we can start to bring it into our lives more and more, and build our lives around that. The more we can feel into what gives us joy in every moment and follow it, the more we will live our life according to our soul, and the happier we will be.

Well, those were some deep words from me today, but I truly believe them wholeheartedly, and hope that I can inspire you in some way when you read these words, to begin to believe in yourself and your potential. Because it’s there! And you deserve to live a happy life, fulfilled and in alignment with your soul. You deserve to be singing your soul’s song!

Sending you so much love & light,
